SOS Children’s Villages of India Visakhapatnam Bags Award for Best Service from Junior Chamber International
The
Visakhapatnam Chapter of JCI, JCI Vizag Port Amigos, facilitated SOS Children’s
Village Visakhapatnam with the 2021
Award for Best Service in recognition of it contributions towards the holistic
development of children, and for its efforts towards enabling capacity building
of vulnerable families in local communities and it’s educational initiatives for
children. The award was presented at a function organized by JCI to commemorate
its JCI Week Grand Day Celebrations. Mr. K.S.S. Sai Varma, President of JCI
Visakhapatnam, gave the award, in the presence of Mr. Vara Prasad, Divisional
Manager, Union Bank of India.
Commenting
about the JCI Award, Mr Sumanta Kar, Secretary General, SOS Children’s
Villages of India, said: “It is an honour to receive the award for best
service from a like-minded and reputed social service organisation like JCI. We
have the privilege of having a long-standing association with JCI Vizag Port
Amigos which is committed to the cause of upholding the rights of children.
Even during the pandemic, volunteers from JCI imparted various skills to our
children and mothers, online. We are grateful for this kind gesture. We look
forward to strengthening our association with JCI, further.”
In
his comments, Mr. Sai Varma, President of JCI Vizag Port Amigos, said:
“At the time when we celebrate the 105th anniversary of the JCI Movement, we
are proud to facilitate SOS Children’s Villages of India with an award for best
service. At JCI, we provide development opportunities that empower young people
to create positive change. We find targeted solutions to local issues that
benefit our communities. The SOS Children’s Villages of India team at
Visakhapatnam is hugely dedicated to the cause of securing education,
development, and social needs of children.”
JCI Vizag
Port Amigos had also organized an online painting competition for children
which saw the participation of about 500 children, including 30 from SOS
Children’s Village Visakhapatnam. The theme of the competition was: blood
donation. Two children of SOS Children’s Village Visakhapatnam won consolation prizes.
Established
in 1995, SOS Children’s Village Visakhapatnam is
currently serving over 160 children and youth on its campus. It is also running
a Community Outreach Programme and a Family Strengthening Programme (FSP),
which enable capacity building, livelihood training and various other projects
to enhance the household income of vulnerable families, with children, in local
communities. The FSP programme currently benefits over 500 people.
